Ford revised its 1955 models slightly for 1956, and station wagon sales increased slightly from 209,459 to 214,446 units. This was done - in part - to the Lifeguard safety campaign, which offered safety belts for the time. Changes to the exterior included oval sidelights up front, revised chrome trim and larger round taillights, while the interior offered an optional padded dash and visors, double doors and energy-absorbing dished steering wheels.
