The SM model was the first product coming from the cooperation between Citroen and Maserati: indeed, the 6-cylinder engine fitted to the new model was designed by the engineer Giulio Alfieri, the Maserati technical manager, and entirely built at the Modena plants. The SM was extremely advanced and some of its specifications are still so nowadays as the headlights connected to the steering-wheel to follow the bend radius or the steering- wheel hardening variable depending on the car speed.
