Mymsa was a Catalan brand of motorcycles produced by the company Motores y Motos, SA in Barcelona between 1953 and 1963.
The company, located on the street Torras i Bages del barri de Sant Andreu in Barcelona, was founded by brothers Aragall. They produced motorcycles for agricultural works with the differential on both rear wheels. They also produced engines for motorcycles up to 175 cc.
The company was established in early 1954 with an initial registered capital of 2,000,000 pesetas, which was invested equally by Narcís Paricio (an investment partner) and the family Aragall, represented by brothers Francesc and Guillem and sons Francesc, Josep and Jaume, directly responsible for the industrial design of the company.
The first president of Mymsa was William Aragall. The first list of the company's employees included Tomàs Frasquet, Vicente Angulo, Alberto Vélez, Carles Casas, Josep Fontanellas, Enric Cano i Rosendo Carrasco.
The company moved into the old house of the Aragalls at: Soler i Rovirosa, the total area of 400 m2. The lack of adequate equipment because of the international isolation of Spain in conjunction with many constraints (the effects arising from a totalitarian military regime) created more complications in the early years of production. However, in the first year of work at full capacity 263 motorcycles were made.
Initially the motorcycles were painted in brown color, with a two-tone brown and silver tank, later they switched to the variant of black and green in two colors. Then they began to produce the model Rana 3R motocarro, a three-wheeled motorcycle with a closed supporting body, equipped with a 125 cc engine of the motorcycle Mymsa-1. It weighed 250 kg and was able to transport a payload of 200 kg and of 1.3 cubic meters volume.
In 1955 the project of an experimental model Mymsa was developed. It was a motorcycle with a monocoque chassis and with updated 125-cc engine Mymsa. The motorcycle was tested on March 18, 1955 in Terramar with excellent results.
At the same time this year the company introduced a prototype of diesel Mymsa 4R, with 4-wheel drive, two-stroke engine of 500 cc and a power of 16 hp at 3,000 rpm.
Soon after, on July 1 and 2 the first participation in the 24 hours Montjuïc Mymsarace took place, together with a team of Valerià Batallé and Josep Gavaldà, who piloted Mymsa A-1 of 125 cc and won 20th place out of 44 participants. In the 1955 season, the brand participated in more than twenty sports events.
The first model Mymsa-A1 had a considerable success in the market. In September the company agreed to work out a project of a new plant. The year was closed with the production of 534 motorcycles and tricycles motocarros in indefinite quantity.
In the following year, the company moved to a new, more spacious factory in the streets Torras and Bages near de Sant Andreu.
The production was growing and the company was launching many new products, the most notable of them: X-13 in 1958 with the 175 cc engine, a very innovative project for countryside motorcycle in 1959 with six forward gears and one reverse, with two wheels differential and rear towing hitch, allowing to hang various component parts for land cultivation. By the end of his career Mymsa also presented a draft for a motocross bike Z-61 Cabra 74 cc in 1962.
However, the company was unable to overcome the crisis in the sector caused by the advent of Seat 600 in the early 1960s and the complete lack of support from the state. The factory was finally closed in 1963, ten years after its foundation.
