On his 80th birthday, Ferry Porsche is presented with a ready-to-drive design study based on the 911 Carrera 4. Completed in just a few months and given the euphonic name "Panamericana" this model is also displayed at the 1989 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The design of the horizontal roof structure strongly influences the subsequent development of the 911 Targa. And the study also provides the inspiration for designing a roadster, the future Porsche Boxster.
