Developed specifically for the World Sports Car Championship, the 936 ranks among the most successful Porsche racing cars, with three Le Mans victories to its credit. In 1976, it was the first Porsche with a turbo engine to win in Le Mans. In 1977, Jacky Ickx, Jurgen Barth, and Hurley Haywood defeat the Renault factory armada of six racing cars. In 1981 the 936 makes a sensational comeback at Le Mans with yet another overall victory.
