On account of the financial investment associated with its extensive racing activities Porsche decides in 1969 to work together with the British racing team led by John Wyer and its sponsor, the Gulf Oil company. Porsche provides the cars and the replacement parts, while the Wyer team assumes use of the short-tail coupe Porsche 917 KH Coupe with its striking effectiveness, which helps win the manufacturers world championship in 1970 and 1971.
