Following Porsche's success in prototype racing, the RS Spyder deployed by Porsche partner Roger Penske immediately won its first race at the end of 2005. Over the following three years the open-top sports car won all four championship titles in the driver, team, chassis, and engine rankings for their class in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The European equivalent had an equally successful debut in the Le Mans Series (LMS) in 2008.
