Having been founded in 1919 DKW, along with Audi, Horch and Wanderer, went on to form Auto-Union in 1932. This specific model is a development of the F-2, a prewar model, which as a big commercial success that also had many racings.
Series 1000 and 1000S was introduced in 1958, however, the automobile came into production in 1959, remaining on the assembly line till 1963. The following versions of the car were produced: a 2- or 4-door sedan, a 2-door sport version, a 3-door station wagon and a cabriolet (the last one from Karman workshop).
This automobile succeeded to achieve very good sales and particularly important sport results inside and outside of Germany.

This automobile was produced in 1960.
Interesting technical details:
The automobile was set in motion by non-poppet valve three-cylinder two-stroke petroleum engine with front wheel drive.
Due to the capability to place three people on the front seat, the passenger compartment housed 6 people altogether. That is three cylinders move 6 people. Thus, the name of the model was adopted as "3 = 6".
