The Citroën Ami is a supermini produced by the French automaker Citroën from 1961 to 1978.
Ami 6 was one of the attempts to raise the sales level. Being more powerful, than the 2CV, thanks to the 602 cc opposite-cylinder engine Ami had rather an eccentric exterior. It looked as as if it was shaped out of two automobiles – one part of 2CV and one part of DS. An unusual reverse-raked rear window was similar in style to Ford Anglia. The magazine Businessweek included the Ami 1961 into the list of fifty the ugliest cars of the second half of the twentieth century. The sales in France were high, but an unfamiliar look scared away the buyers in other countries, that is why, the Citroën made the rear window usual in 1969, added a new grille and disk brakes on the front wheels, having given to it the name Ami 8.
In 1972 the Ami became to be fitted with four-cylinder 1.015 cc engine of the GS, due to which the dynamic characteristics improved. The model got the name Ami Super.
