Mercedes-Benz W100 (alias Mercedes 600) is one of the most prestige limousines of the twentieth century, produced by the West Germany company Mercedes Benz in 1963—1981. The automobile, which was one-and-only in the world, became the image of luxury and prestige, and the most owners were the celebrities of the 60ies, 70ies and 80ies years of XX century. Being a rare model (2,677 pieces produced altogether), the limousine is in great favor up to now as a vintage car.
For the first time in the whole post-war period the company Mercedes-Benz developed a new 8-cylinder V-engine designated M100 for this full-size limousine. Having the capacity of 6,332 cc, the horsepower of 247 hp and the torsion toque of 503 Nm, the engine brought into action the integral units of the body air suspension as well. But the main thing, it was capable to drive a big car up to 205 km/h, the speed, which only Porsche 911 could overpass in 1963.
The automobile assembled by hand, had two body types: “ordinary” limousine and lengthened “Pullman”, differing only in the length of the wheelbase. The “short” car had two versions of the passenger compartment, standard and separated, in which the front seats were divided from the back seats with a powered glass partition window.
The long Pullman had more evident varieties. The limousines were produced particularly in four- or six-door combinations. The first had two rear-facing seats, giving room for four persons and the second had the central row with two small jump seats. There were produced altogether 428 long limousines.
