2013 Hundai Passo Corto IED

The Hyundai PassoCorto design study—"passo corto" is Italian for "short wheelbase"—is the result of a partnership between Hyundai's European design center and the master's program at the Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin. Design students submitted various proposals depicting cars they felt Gen Y buyers would want to drive. The candidates were whittled down to two finalists, and the PassoCorto is the end result—a 70/30 combination of that pair.
Luca Borgogno, Pininfarina's chief designer, oversaw the project workflow for the Institute. The real miracle is that the PassoCorto wound up being an enthusiast's car and not just another connectivity-laden transport pod, given the design brief's target audience.
The proposal utilizes a 1.6-liter turbo four making approximately 268 hp, presumably a massaged version of the engine found in the Veloster Turbo. Dimensionally, at 4.1 meters long and with a 2.45-meter wheelbase, the PassoCorto is sized like the Alfa Romeo 4C, with bodywork that's less sensual, but equally audacious. Face it: it looks wicked, especially from the rear three-quarter.
