1860 Smooth Bore Muzzle-Loading Gun 15-inch
This gun, weighing 19,501 kg, was designed by John Dahlgren of the US Navy. The mark TP No51’ on the barrel stands for Tort Pitt Foundry No51\ It was mounted on the monitor USS Catawaba, which was later sold to Peru. The warship was scuttled in the war between Peru and Chile in the late 1880s, and presumably the gun also sank into the sea. However, in May 1988, the gun was recovered from the waters near Hung Horn Bay, Kowloon. The mystery of how and when it got there remains unknown.
