The Comet was the last medium tank produced for the British Army during the Second World War; it appeared in combat in early 1945. It developed 600 bhp at 2,550 rpm, and its armour is 10 cm thick. It had a crew of five and a combat loaded weight of 32.7 tons (33,225 kg). The turret has vertical sides and mounts a 77-mm gun with a muzzle brake. Auxiliary armament consists of two 7.92-mm machine guns. A few Comet tanks were brought to Hong Kong during and after the Korean War (1950-53). Only one was retained by the British Army and stationed in the Shek Kong Barracks until 1995 when the Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers) disbanded.
