The 500 Superfast succeeded the 400 Superamerica series as the limited production grand tourer, and built 36 examples were produced between 1964 and 1966. Clients for this exclusive form of transportation, which cost as much as two Rolls Royces when new, included the Shah of Iran, who bought two within four months in 1965, and the British actor Peter Sellers.
