The Talgo II inherited part of the technological innovations of the prototype Talgo I. Most of them are still at work in the current Talgos articulated, light sets with a low gravity centre and independent rotation of wheels and, apart from technology, an unknown comfort for the time reclining seats, meals served at the seat, access doors on platform level, panoramic windows, air conditioning and an observation coach on its tail. This train was tested in the USA in 1948 and arrived in Spain in 1949; the next year it began working between Madrid and Hendaya. In the tests it reached 142 kph, although its maximum speed in commercial service was 120 kph. The Talgo II ran until 1972, but the four locomotives still run towing the Talgo III coaches, its successor, till 1976.
