The engine of this automobile is a famous 4-cylinder – 1.5-liter engine of 547 type with double ignition, constructed by professor Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann , who was the Chairman of the Board of Directors at that time and till 12.31.1980.
This is the next series after the type Porsche SPYDER 550, notorious by the fact, that well-known actor JAMES DEAN was killed driving that car in 1955.
This model was introduced into closed-circuit races and mountain races instead of RS Zuffenhausen and got the name of 1500 RS-K or type 718. It competed successfully with more powereful engines. In the season of 1958 Porsche RSK Spyder driven by racing drivers Stirling Moss and Jean Behra won the third place behind two 3-litre Ferrari. After an excellent rating in the main endurance races of the season 1958 Porsche won the second place in the category of sports cars.
