An amphibious vehicle was an answer to the order for Bundeswehr armament (the armed forces of Germany). Porsche began to investigate a new direction with its "Jagdwagen" – or "chase car" in 1953. Vehicle type 597 can move both on the land and in the water, and all-wheel drive operated by a driver works equally well both on the asphalt and off the road. When it was presented by Bundeswehr, it left behind other competitors, which stuck in the mud.
